06 REAL ESTATE — GLOBAL HOUSING MARKETS
United States: Existing-home sales increased 1.5% month-over-month in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.99 million, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales were down 2.2% year-over-year. The median existing-home price was $417,500, up 1.3% year-over-year, marking the 39th consecutive month of annual gains. Inventory rose to 1.60 million units, equal to 4.8 months’ supply.
United Kingdom: Average asking prices for newly listed homes rose 1.0% in October to £371,015 but were 0.1% lower than a year ago, according to Rightmove. The average two-year fixed mortgage rate rose to 5.55% from 5.29% the previous month. Sales agreed were down 8% year-on-year, while new buyer enquiries fell 9%. Available housing stock reached its highest level for this time of year since 2014.
China: New home prices in 70 major cities showed divergent trends in September. First-tier cities recorded a 0.1% month-over-month increase, with Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen gaining 0.2%, 0.2%, and 0.3% respectively, while Beijing fell 0.2%. Second-tier cities were flat month-over-month, while third-tier cities declined 0.2%. Year-over-year, first-tier new home prices fell 0.5%, with Shanghai the only gainer at +2.8%.
07 HEDGE FUNDS & PRIVATE EQUITY
Hedge Funds: The recent AI-driven equity selloff has hit global hedge funds, with Asia-focused fundamental long-short managers among the hardest hit. The strategy has lost 6.8% in the first half of October, reversing a substantial portion of earlier gains. Goldman Sachs noted the unusual extent of simultaneous losses across hedge fund strategies, observing that declines of more than 80 basis points on the same day across all three broad strategies have occurred three times in 2026, compared to never from COVID through end-2025.
Private Equity: Private markets continue to grow in importance as companies spend more time under private ownership. Improved access to capital in private markets has led more US companies to stay private for longer, with private investment strategies posting favorable returns relative to small-cap US public stocks over three, five, 10-year and longer-term periods.
08 COMMODITIES — MIXED PERFORMANCE
Commodity markets showed mixed performance on Monday. Precious metals gained while energy products declined. Gold rose 0.5%, silver gained 1.12%, and copper advanced 0.56%. Brent and WTI fell 1.34% and 1.12% respectively.
