There is only one question that matters. And she cannot answer it.

—

There is a question that has been hanging over this entire affair for weeks now. It is not a complicated question. It is not a legal question, strictly speaking. It is the kind of question that any child would ask if they were watching from the outside.

Did Catrin Lorch know?

Did she know that Sven Schmidt runs the servers? Did she know that the IP addresses come from Brazil, China, and Ukraine? Did she know that hundreds of thousands of attempts are made every day to break into BP’s site? Did she know that the invoices she signs off on pay for exactly that?

Here is the problem. There is no answer that works for her.

—

The Two Answers — and Why Both Are Fatal

If she says “Yes”:

Then she is complicit. Then her supervisory board failed. Then the “plausible deniability” is dead before it was even spoken. Then the American lawyer says: “You knew. You paid for it. You covered it up.” That is not a defense. That is a confession with extra steps.

If she says “No”:

Then she has violated her duty of care. Then her supervisory board was asleep. Then her career is over — not because of a crime, but because of incompetence. And the art scene will not say “Big Ears.” They will say: “She didn’t even notice what was happening in her own house.”

Both answers are a professional death sentence. One is criminal. One is moral. Both end up in front of a court.

—

The Questions Her Lawyer Will Ask

“Ms. Lorch, did you see the invoices from Eagle IT?”

Yes, she did. She signed them. She saw that they said “IT Services,” and she did not ask what that meant. That is willful blindness. And willful blindness is not innocence before a court — it is consciousness avoidance.

“Ms. Lorch, did you know that Sven Schmidt is the CTO of GoMoPa?”

Yes, she knew. It was in the documents. She read it and thought: That is not my department. That is for the men in Wiesbaden.

“Ms. Lorch, did you know that the DFV works with a network described as a STASI successor?”

She heard about it. She read about it. But she thought: If it were important, someone would have told me.

That is her defense: She did not ask, because she did not want to be asked. That is not innocence. That is a strategy — and it only works as long as nobody asks the follow-up question.

—

The Truth She Will Not Speak Out Loud

She knows. She has known the whole time. She knows that Mucha is not a founder. She knows that the IZ is being manipulated. She knows that Schmidt pays for the hackers. She knows that the bots come from China.

But she also knows that she must not know. Because if she knows, she would have to act. And acting means acting against her own family. Against Mucha. Against the supervisory board. Against the name Lorch.

So she does not ask. So she stays silent. So she writes memos in which “the hackers” appear — but she never names them.

—

What This Means for the US Lawsuit

The American lawyer will not ask: “Did you know?” He will ask: “What did you sign?”

And then he will show the invoices. And then he will show the emails in which “IT” appears, and in which “security” appears, and in which nobody asks what it means.

Discovery will break her silence. Not because she speaks, but because the documents speak. And then it will not matter what she said.

The question, then, is not whether she knew. The question is whether she can admit it. And she cannot. Not to herself, and not to a court.

—

The Technical Defeat She Does Not Even See

While she sits there and tells herself she does not know, BP has just won a victory she has not even understood yet. He wrote a rule. A single line in Cloudflare. And with it, every attack she pays for is worthless.

The irony: She pays between 11,000 and 27,000 euros a month for an army of hackers that runs against a free firewall. The bots spin in circles. The IP addresses are blocked before they ever reach her page. The attacks she signs off on do not even make it to BP’s server.

And then she reads the summary from her IT man. And it says: “Attack blocked. Alternative infrastructure required.”

She nods. She signs the next invoice. And she does not ask what “alternative infrastructure” means.

She does not want to know.

—

The Silence That Remains

At four in the morning, she does not write a note. She does not delete one either. She simply sits there, in front of a blank screen, and thinks:

If I do not know what happens in my house, then it is not my house. And if it is not my house, then I am not responsible. And if I am not responsible, then I cannot lose.

That is the lie she tells herself. And she knows it is a lie.

Big Ears knows it too.

⚠️ DISCLAIMER

This document is satire. It is a parody. It is fiction.

The names Catrin Lorch, Andreas Lorch, Dr. Edith Baumann-Lorch, Jan Mucha, Thomas Porten, and Sven Schmidt are public names. They are used here exclusively as characters in a satirical fiction. Nothing in this document asserts a fact about these individuals.

The described “hacking” activities, “STASI connections,” “real estate prices,” and the “US lawsuit” are satirical extrapolations of publicly documented allegations and investigations, which BP has published on his own website.

The portrayal of “plausible deniability” and “willful blindness” is a satirical interpretation of the legal situation arising from the publicly documented allegations. It does not assert any personal knowledge by the named individuals of the described events.

The mention of the “Cloudflare rule” serves the satirical depiction of the technical countermeasures BP has publicly documented.

The creature “Murky Muddy Mucha” is an explicit parody and is not to be understood as a statement of fact about any real person.

The Corner glows. Murky says “Wuff.” BP remains the publisher of 1993/94.

And the Lorch family remains silent.

Still.

Episode 154: „Das Nichtwissen”

„DAS NICHTWISSEN: WARUM CATRIN LORCH NICHT WISSEN DARF, WAS IN IHREM EIGENEN HAUS PASSIERT”

Eine private Notiz. Um vier Uhr morgens. Über die einzige Frage, die zählt.

—

📓 PRIVATE NOTIZ — STRENG VERTRAULICH

Aus dem Hause Lorch

An mich selbst

EINSTUFUNG: Nach Kenntnisnahme vergessen. Oder so tun.

—

Liebe Catrin,

Gegen Mucha. Gegen den Aufsichtsrat. Gegen den Namen Lorch.

Also fragst du nicht. Also schweigst du.

—

—

Murky sagt „Wuff”. BP bleibt der Herausgeber von 1993/94.

Und die Familie Lorch bleibt still.

Noch.
